Another Photo Dump: Food Edition

Since I took a hiatus from this blog—purely unintentional, by the way, life just got super busy—I’ve accumulated a huge amount of unposted photos of the food I’ve cooked during the past 2 months. Quarantine has me feeling particularly culinary, so enjoy this foodie photo dump!

The fluffiest scrambled eggs. Can you believe there’s no dairy in these? The key is to salt them and let ’em sit for 10 minutes before cooking! The salt denatures the proteins in the eggs, causing them to really fluff up.

Fried rice. A classic! There was a week where this was literally all I’d make myself for dinner. Laziness never tasted so good.

Spaghetti and meatballs. Another comfort food! I wouldn’t really consider this one “cooking” (more like “assembly”) since all I did was boil some water, defrost store-bought meatballs, add Prego, and sprinkle on some parmesan for additional fanciness. But hey, it was good!IMG_0589

“The Stew” by Alison Roman, aka chickpea-coconut curry with kale. This was my first time cooking an Alison Roman recipe, and I was thoroughly impressed! It was *chef’s kiss* absolutely delicious.

Carbonara by Bon Appetit with garlic bread. SO GOOD. Gosh, rigatoni is such a delightful pasta shape. (On a side note, y’know what pasta I’m tired of? PENNE! The world does not need another penne dish, I swear.)

Gà bóp rau ram. The first Viet dish I’ve made and honestly, a pretty easy one! I used regular cilantro instead of actual rau ram due to availability, which I personally don’t think negatively impacted the flavor. Served cold, this was so refreshing on a hot day.

French toast by Bon Appetit. I personally think this is the prettiest dish I’ve made—confectioner’s sugar is quite flattering, don’t ya think? It was yummy but took forever to prepare—the brioche needs to soak in the egg mixture for around 20 minutes, so this recipe is NOT for the impatient.IMG_0615

Linguine alfredo. Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve got this dish down pat. I made it 3-4 times in a week just to perfect it, and wow, now I can’t wait to cook it for others. Oooo and it’s going to be even better with freshly ground black pepper—I’m eagerly awaiting a pepper mill in the mail. 😜

Baked ziti by Bon Appetit. Earlier I mentioned I was tired of penne, and this dish is partially why! (Due to availability, I’d subbed penne for ziti.) While the flavors were lovely, as a whole this dish was too rich for my taste—I don’t think I’ve ever consumed so much cheese in a single serving.IMG_2318-preview

Cauliflower and onion gratin by Alison Roman. Unfortunately I have an extremely finicky oven, so this dish cooked a bit unevenly. However, that roasted top layer was fantastic. (Also, in making this I discovered that I quite like gruyère, so all’s not lost!)

Sour cream dip with sizzled scallions and chili by Alison Roman. My boyfriend got me Alison Roman’s cookbook Nothing Fancy as a birthday gift, hence the repeat Roman recipes! Anyways, this dip was light yet flavorful and an absolute joy to make (I really wanna do more experimenting with chili oil!).IMG_0642IMG_0645.jpg
