Gloves On, Masks Up!

Finally got some masks in the mail (thanks Mommy)! Although I definitely feel better walking outside with one, I’m trying not to let it give me a false sense of security. Especially given that I live alone, I’m taking all the necessary precautions.

Work-wise, this week went pretty well! I made major progress on a project I’m leading and had a lot of breakthroughs. And, aside from a night I spent brainstorming until 2 AM, I did a much better job than usual at maintaining a work-life balance (aka stopping work at 6 PM instead of…well…bedtime).

With that extra free time, I binged Seasons 1 and 2 of Fleabag. (Before you start judging me, keep in mind there’s only 12 episodes total. 😛) It was good! Tragicomedy is such a funky genre.

I also watched a few episodes of Love, Death, and Robots, which was cool and gave me Black Mirror vibes. I was pleasantly surprised by how many episodes there were given that it’s really well-animated (and it’s 3D, not just cartoons!). My boyfriend’s been taking a 3D modeling course this semester, and his experience has given me a bit of insight into how much time that stuff takes. Short answer: a TON.

In other news, I’m quite pleased with this blanket fort I constructed for Coconut. He likes to be in the same room as me when I work, but I know it’s tough for him to nap with the lights on—in the past I’ve even caught him trying to drape a blanket over his eyes! It’s adorable.

Speaking of Coconut, our walks this week have been really therapeutic. I haven’t experienced “cabin fever” yet—in fact, I find staying indoors awesome—but Boston is beautiful and I love any opportunity to appreciate that fact.

I’ve also had some great conversations this week. Last Saturday, for example, included a catch-up session with my sister, a Facetime call with my mom, and a Zoom call with my scholarship cohort from college. The last one was particularly nice since I hadn’t seen them since graduation—plus, I got some cool book/podcast recs!

In general I wanna try switching up the media I consume, which is typically short-form (like Youtube and TV), by dipping more into books and movies instead. I’m actually on a mission to watch more of the Academy’s Best Picture nominees from 2018-2020, which was prompted by the realization that I’d only seen FIVE out of the nearly thirty films (for the curious, those five were: Get Out, The Shape of Water, Black Panther, Marriage Story, and Parasite).

I’ve already started making progress by watching Ladybird before writing this post. (It was eh! Solid C+.) 🎬

As for this weekend, I’m aiming to finish Week 2 of my Machine Learning course, start another book, work out, and watch Vice (a 2019 nominee). If I’m feeling ambitious, I might even check out The Irishman (2020). Who knows!! 😏
