March Books (2020)

March was a tough reading month. I got soooo stuck on the book in this post—by the time I realized how much I disliked it, I’d already invested so much time into reading it and thus had to finish (classic sunk cost fallacy, I know). 😩

Anyways, this book made reading feel like a chore and took weeks to finish as a result. I wish I could’ve read more last month, but alas!!

Rating: F
Left me feeling: 😤
Overall:
This book was…so….DRY. It was a huge success in the ’70s, but I personally found it un-engaging and way too dense. Unless you already have a background or interest in (primarily Greek) philosophy—which most of this book is a commentary on, along with some spurts of actual plot here and there—I couldn’t recommend it less. It also rarely makes ties to Buddhism, which is pretty misleading.
Extra commentary w/ spoilers (highlight to see):
Phaedrus’s insistence on not defining Quality kinda seemed like a copout. Also, I was glad I read the afterword, since it really helped cement the “semi-autobiographical”-ness of this book. Chris’s fate was so tragic though.
